The Lowdown on Reebok Treadmills

Reebok treadmills have a name that has instant recall. Their biggest market? The U.S. Their apparel has been a top brand for decades, their commercial treadmills, very reliable and, all in all, the brand just spells quality and, somewhat, status.

But there is one thing important to remember in Reebok home treadmills: they are not made by the same manufacturers that make those commercial gym treadmills. In fact, the Reebok line of home treadmills are manufactured by a company named Icon Health and Fitness, the same manufacturer of Weslo and Proform Treadmills. Now, if those companies strike a nervous bone, then you're right, they are infamous for their short warranties.

Reebok treadmills, however, don't suffer from the same predicament. They have good and lasting warranties; the basic package including a lifetime warranty on the frame, two years for the belt, deck and most electrical and mechanical components. The motor is covered for two to three years, generally. You don't have to worry about the labor for the initial year of ownership. But still check with you're supplier, though, just to be sure.

Here's the deal: what you're paying for in Reebok treadmills, according to many experts, is the name. The tag price is weighed down heavily by the company profile. Basically, Reebok treadmills belonging to its mid-priced lines will drain you of $1200 to $2000. Quite a hefty price tag, huh? So, is this the best choice for you?

Reebok treadmills, at least the basic home use line, really don't offer much. Most features and amenities can be found elsewhere in much cheaper brands, like Bodyguard and Smooth. Their old RX 3500 brand has been elapsed by the more powerful and expensive RX 7200 - RX 9200 lines. All above $1500. So, for that amount of money, you expect a lot, right? So let's list the ordinary specifications of these machines and look real hard to see if they're worth that much.

First up, the RX7200. The RX 7200 has an adjustable cushioning feature that most of the treadmills have on this list. Notice the top speed, too -- 12 miles per
hour. That's top sprint speed for most people and is not recommended on home treadmills at all. Priced at $1400 or more, think twice, thrice and as many times as you need to before purchasing this one.

Reebok Treadmill number two, the RX8200, has the same top speed for the advanced runners wanting much more than a good sweating. The large running deck is made for extra long legs to ensure that they can run comfortably. Again, compare with other trusted brands first before purchase. The tag levels out at $1600 a pop.

The RX9200, roaring with a 3.0 commercial power motor, is one of Reebok Treadmill's more high priced products. But in truth, aside from the motor, there isn't much difference. Comes with the adjustable cushioning and large running deck too.

So, the verdict? If you want reliability and have the extra cash to burn, or if you're just starting in the fitness path and unsure of those brands you've never heard of before, go ahead, the big company backing will work for you. But if you're an advanced runner just wanting to replace your old, worn-out treadmill, look elsewhere. You'll know what to look for: longer warranties and quality at much lower price tags.
