Power Walking Benefits: The True Chi of Getting Fit

Walking is such an ordinary day to day activity that when somebody tells us it can make us lose weight, eyebrows go up and eyeballs pop out. Walking, and you get slim? You gotta be kidding me.

But fortunately for all of us, it's a fact.

Power walking, simply put, is walking with a goal. It's not what they do in the Olympics, by the by; that's a whole new ballgame entirely. You can not, however, simply decide that you'll do power walking one fine day and go ahead and do it. Think of it as something like any other exercise routine wherein you have to warm up at first and cool down last. Take time to ask your nearest friendly fitness trainer to ask for proper instructions regarding power walking. This is very important because it would make everything become more effective.

The benefits of power walking are numerous. First, it doesn't cost a lot to power walk. You don't need to go to the gym or even buy a treadmill. This definitely benefits your overworked bank account. A good pair of shoes just about sums up the expense factor of this particular exercise routine.

Second would be that it can be easily worked into your schedule. Again, this benefits you because it's time-effective and remember, time shall always be thought of as 24k gold. You can power walk to your office or, if you want to avoid sweating like a pig when you enter company lines, you can power walk on your way home. The choice, ladies and gents and those in between, is all yours.

Third is that it can't be boring. While power walking outside, may it be just around the neighborhood or all the way to the next state, you can enjoy the scenery and take time to smell the roses. Treadmills are a good, but solitary, exercise and can become a little tedious. What's great about power walking is that it gives you an excuse to go outside and get around. It benefits your social calendar if it's blank from summer to winter.

Fourth is the fact that you can do it in groups. And you don't even have to pay a membership fee! How nice is that?! You can ask your friend to accompany you on your mission to blast out fats away from your personal universe or join the community's power walking sessions. Or, if you're such a social butterfly, you can just power walk in the trendiest haunts and wait until a fellow power walker catches your eye. The benefits go on and on, don't they?

Of course, there's always the other side of a coin and for every benefit comes an opposite disadvantage. Power walking, since it's done outdoors, exposes you to all the outdoor risks. The first and foremost enemy would have to be the weather. Not everybody loves the rain so getting wed and muddy while exercising isn't everyone's idea of fun. But, as I said, it's all up to you as you weigh the pros and cons of power walking. When choosing a workout routine, keep in mind that the best choice would probably be the one you think you can maintain the longest and not the cheapest or the most fashionable. So no, it's not practical to do yoga just because everybody in Hollywood think it's fun.
